For the second year in a row, Attack Kawasaki dominated the Daytona 200 season opener with an excellent 1-2 finish, new team member Chaz Davies (57) attacking for the win with last year's Daytona 200 winner Steve Rapp (15) finishing closely in 2nd place. At first, after near total attrition from the Hondas leaving the field with one problem or another, it appeared that race leader and 2007 FX champ Josh Hayes had won a solid and unassailable victory on his CBR600RR, only to be disqualified hours later after technical inspection found his race bike in violation of FX class rules. With news emerging that 2009 will feature a whole new class structure for AMA road racing, it was heartening to see that the Attack Ninja ZX-6R will already have a leg up on the competition as Daytona Superbikes becomes the new premiere class. In Supersport, Davies finished 4th with Rapp coming in 7th. Read more about it at www.roadracingworld.com. Next race: Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, Alabama April 18-20 |
